Gregory Strom is a seasoned screenwriter, filmmaker, producer, and director with more than 30 years of hands-on experience crafting compelling, commercially viable stories across television, feature films, advertising, and digital media. His career reflects a unique blend of creative storytelling, business acumen, and global production expertise—qualities that make him an attractive partner for agents and entertainment lawyers seeking writers who deliver both artistic depth and market appeal.

The Journey into Screenwriting

Strom’s path to screenwriting grew organically from a highly successful career in visual storytelling and commercial production. For decades, he produced, directed, and edited over 1,000 television commercials and music videos for major global brands, including numerous Super Bowl spots. This high-pressure environment honed his ability to tell concise, emotionally resonant stories that captivate mass audiences under tight deadlines and budgets. Working with A-list talent such as Michael Jackson, Martin Sheen, Dan Aykroyd, Larry Hagman, Joan Rivers, Burt Lancaster, Kiefer Sutherland, and others gave him invaluable insight into performance, character dynamics, and what resonates on screen.

Directing award-winning campaigns (including the iconic Dirt Devil spot with Fred Astaire) and earning prestigious accolades—including Clio, Telly, New York Film Festival, American Film Institute/Billboard, Worldfest, and others—solidified his reputation as a visual storyteller. He also produced or edited 11 feature-length films and was shortlisted for an Academy Award for Original Song, with recognition in Time Magazine. These experiences taught him the mechanics of narrative structure, pacing, and audience engagement from the inside out.

Transitioning into long-form screenwriting felt like a natural evolution. Strom began channeling his marketing-honed instincts for broad appeal into original screenplays and series. His work consistently blends timely themes with strong commercial hooks—whether political intrigue, contained thrillers, family-friendly adventures, or genre pieces. As a published children’s book author (Santa’s Map), he also demonstrates versatility across demographics.

Standout Projects

  • Quagmire (TV Series): Co-written with noted historian and author Robert W. Merry. This timely political drama series explores media tension and power in 1960s America, centered on a major weekly magazine during the Gulf of Tonkin incident. Pilot script and 3-season bible available. Stylistically comparable to The West Wing, Mad Men, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

  • Earwitness to Murder (Feature): A contained thriller adapted from an original story by Robert W. Merry. A former Washington Post reporter becomes entangled in a small-town murder investigation involving her lover. Perfect for streaming; evokes Chinatown, Mulholland Drive, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Additional available projects include Unchain My Heart, Santa’s Map (feature adaptation), and Feeble Beasts (with concept artwork), showcasing range from drama to family and genre material.

Additional Strengths for Representation

Beyond writing, Strom brings substantial business and production value:

  • Co-Founder and Partner in a global personal development company; as Head of Worldwide Media, he helped create products sold in over 100 countries.

  • Extensive experience in international production, graphic arts, and web design.

  • Proven ability to manage complex projects from concept to completion.

  • Lives on Whidbey Island, Washington, providing a grounded perspective while remaining connected to industry networks.

Strom is actively seeking representation and is ready to collaborate on ready-to-produce projects. His combination of decades in the trenches of commercial filmmaking, award-winning credentials, high-profile collaborations, and a growing portfolio of original screenplays positions him as a writer with both immediate deliverables and long-term franchise potential.
